At the time this post was written, we were already one-third of the way through fall in North America. Fall is the perfect season for a lot of people. They look forward to this time of year with anticipation. When it finally arrives, they are all smiles. The question is, why?
There isn’t just one reason. As with the other three seasons, there are plenty of things to love about fall. If you are not a fan of this particular season, some of the reasons listed below might not do it for you. But for someone who loves fall, all five reasons contribute to make this time of year the best among all four seasons.
1. Falling Temperatures
Ask a hundred fall lovers what they like most about the season and there is a good chance at least a few will mention falling temperatures right off the bat. That makes sense, coming off the dog days of summer. Autumn is that time of year when the days start getting shorter and the nights cooler. Even daytime temperatures progressively get cooler as the calendar marches through October on its way to November and December.
2. Cooler, Crisper Air
The falling temperatures also bring with them cooler, crisper air. A lot of people with allergies find it so much easier to breathe when fall arrives. The ragweed and pollen have settled down and the air smells of fallen leaves. That’s heaven for people who find it difficult to get along in the summer months.
Unfortunately, the much colder air of winter may not be any better than summer air. But for the brief three months of fall, the air is perfectly crisp and cool. Breathing is easier. The air seems fresher and more alive.
3. Breaking Out the Warm Clothes
Believe it or not, some people love fall because it represents an opportunity to break out warmer clothes. They wait all summer for an opportunity to throw on a nice sweater or heavy sweatshirt. There are even people who celebrate the arrival of fall with a shopping trip.
Whether fall lovers take a trip to the mall or shop online for boutique brands like the LatinX Plurawl brand, this is the time of year to stock up on new LatinX sweat shirts, hoodies, hats, and sweaters.
4. Pumpkin Spice Everything
It is not clear who started the pumpkin spice trend or when it occurred. What is clear is that we obsess over pumpkin spice from late September through the end of November. Having a pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving isn’t enough. No, we have pumpkin spice latte and coffee. We obsess over pumpkin spice candies, breads, pancakes and waffles.
Too much pumpkin spice can be a bad thing for people who aren’t particularly fond of fall. But to those for whom this season is the best of all four, you can never have too much pumpkin spice. The more the merrier.
5. It Leads into the Holidays
Last but not least, plenty of people love fall because it leads into the annual holiday season. Depending on your view of the holidays, fall hosts two of them: Halloween and Thanksgiving. People know that when the calendar turns from summer to fall, the holiday season is on the doorstep. That is what they love most.
Is fall your favorite season? If so, what do you like most about it? If not, you have three other seasons to choose from. This time of year, you just have to buckle down and muddle your way through. Meanwhile, the fall lovers in our midst are enjoying their annual three-month party.
